The Boy

The boy stood crying in the street,
Empty stomach and bare feet,
Passer-bys turn jaded eyes,
Hurry on home to family sweet,

The boy sat crying in the rain,
No samaritan, No mother, Only pain,
As tears run down his bony cheeks,
He braved a smile in misery's face,

The boy lay weeping in the cold,
Frozen droplets on frosty snow,
He lay near sleep, his breathing slowed,
A whimper spilt from lips unknown,

The boy,
So Still,
Stretched in the street,

His eyes,
So bright,
Now closed,
In sleep,

He dreamt of warmth and loving arms,
He dreamt of smiles, He laughed out loud,
He dreamt of pie and piles of sweets,
He dreamt he was at fathers feet,

And then the dream came to an end,
And again, he was, his nightmare's claim,

The boy stood crying in the street,
Empty stomach and bare feet.
